Elbow Score Database

Research-driven certification data for canine elbow dysplasia screening worldwide

Standardizing Elbow Dysplasia Data

After 28 years of examining joints and correlating radiographic findings with clinical outcomes, I have compiled this database to address a persistent problem in veterinary orthopedics: the fragmentation of elbow dysplasia screening data across incompatible national systems. The International Elbow Working Group established guidelines in 1990, yet three decades later we still lack universal protocols.

This resource aggregates prevalence statistics, compares grading methodologies, and provides evidence-based screening recommendations for veterinary professionals and breeders committed to reducing inherited joint disease in herding breeds.

Database Methodology

This database aggregates screening results from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club (BVA/KC), and member organizations of the International Elbow Working Group (IEWG). Prevalence calculations exclude dogs screened before the minimum age requirements established by each registry.

All breed-specific statistics are derived from official registry publications and peer-reviewed research. Where data conflicts between sources, I have noted discrepancies and provided the methodology for reconciliation.
